Raza Rabbani’s record

Letter March 03, 2017
Rabbani’s book shifts focus onto the suffering citizens of the country but it is ironic.

LAHORE: Raza Rabbani’s book shifts focus onto the suffering citizens of the country. This is ironic. First, they cause the suffering and then focus on the suffering. Who is it that has given the masses independent power producers’ electricity at Rs18 per unit? Who is responsible for the misery of power cuts facing the masses? Who is responsible for the shutdown of industry, for the decline in exports, for the decline in forex earnings, and for the decline in the national economy? All of this has added to the suffering of the people.

Who is it that has caused a halt to the development of our water resources and a 40-year halt to any increase in water supply — 40 years which are on the way to becoming 55 years without us changing gears. What was enough to feed 80 million mouths has to suffice for 200 million, inflicting ‘food-inflation’ and ‘food-shedding’ on the masses. Only the privileged have three meals a day with too many having only one meal per day.

Yes, the masses are suffering but what is called for is an honest diagnosis and a transparent effort at introspection. Playing politics with the issue will result in much more of exactly the same.
