Officials will now offer prayers for annual increments and not as a religious duty
RAWALPINDI CANTT: According to a press report on February 26, the honourable new chief justice of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Supreme Court, a former office-bearer of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has told the Supreme Court officials that their annual increment will be linked to regularity in offering prayers which will be monitored by a Nizam-e-Salat committee both overt and covert. So, officials will now offer prayers for annual increments and not as a religious duty.
At least three questions need clarification for guidance. One, under which AJK or Quranic law can officials be compelled to offer prayers and also to be monitored by a committee even in private life? Two, will officials of different sects and schools of thought be willing to offer prayers under Imamat apparently conforming to the JI school of thought? Three, is reason for not specifying performance in achieving honest, cheap and speedy justice as criteria both for annual increment and promotion, in line with role of the SC?
