Primitive minds

Letter February 21, 2017
The dismal situation of women’s powerlessness in Pakistan is damaging its soft image across the world

GUJRANWALA: The clamour trumpeted by the right wing, mainly, the JUI-F and the JI, over the decision of conducting re-elections in the constituencies where women cast less than 10 per cent votes is appalling. While civilised and developed nations emphasise willfully increasing women’s participation in politics and the corporate sector, the dismal situation of women’s powerlessness in Pakistan is damaging its soft image across the world, which was conveyed previously in the form of giving the Muslim world its first woman prime minister. As was mentioned in this newspaper, the opposition could have been spurred by the inherent fact that the aforementioned constituencies are where these parties hold influence currently; hence, women may not cast votes in their favour. It is ridiculous that 48 per cent of the population decides the fate of 52 per cent other people in a country. There’s a dire need to put these primitive minds towards a transition. Otherwise, they will throw us back into the abyss.
