Who is responsible for this sad incident?
LAHORE: At the time of writing, two senior police officers and 13 people lost their lives with 83 reported wounded in the attack near the Punjab Assembly on February 13. Some of the injured may suffer life-long disabilities as a result of this attack, which is a loss that cannot be discounted. Who is responsible for this sad incident? Is it not the government’s prime responsibility to protect the life and property of citizens? How many times has it failed in its duties? Why has the Punjab government been refusing the military operation against anti-state elements and terrorists, which have a hub contained in Punjab? Those in the opposition alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) main vote bank is conservative and a religious traders class who are against the liberal people and against the modernisation of Pakistan. They are funding madrassas and ‘mullah-ism’ [sic]. They are also responsible for sectarianism. It was during the first PML-N government in Punjab when the SSP was given a free hand to kill members of certain minorities. Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif is the only chief minister who has not implemented the National Action Plan in its totality. Why is it that when the Lahore High Court took the decision to ban demonstrations on Mall Road, it was not implemented by the Punjab government? Now time has come that the chief minister should not give preference to his personal ego and allow the Rangers to conduct an operation against terrorism and begin a clean-up in Punjab to dismantle the factories that are producing suicides bombers.
