American diversity under Trump

Letter February 06, 2017
His intentions to make America ‘great’ are unchallenged by the majority

MITHI, THARPARKAR: The diversity which, until the Obama adminstration, was considered as the driving force of America has now turned into a dilemma with the arrival of President Donald Trump. The impediments lying in the path of ethnic division which Obama, after being elected as the first coloured president of America, removed are now finding their way back.

Among Trump’s opponents, the ones who have reservations about his intentions, are largely outnumbered by those who doubt his competency. His intentions to make America ‘great’ are unchallenged by the majority but then, intentions are not results. The policies of Trump are promoting distrust amongst the ethnic groups of America. However, Trump should not remain alien to the fact that the unity of the US is glued with diversity and many landmarks of American history are direct or indirect offshoots of that diversity.
