Train-rickshaw accident

Letter January 09, 2017
I urge the authority concerned to take serious steps to eliminate the cause of such accidents

TURBAT: A motorcycle rickshaw carrying some students was hit by a train, where eight people, including seven minor children, were killed and three others injured when they were going to school. Hazara Express was going from Havelian to Karachi when it hit the motorcycle rickshaw near Jalalpur’s open railway crossing. Witnesses of the accident claimed that the railway crossing was open at the time of the accident since no railway worker was present there to close the gates. The railway minister was quoted as saying that there could be several reasons for the accident, like human negligence, dense fog, technical fault or some other reason while he revealed that two rickshaws were involved in the accident where the first one was hit, while the other smashed into the running train.

This is not the first time innocent people have lost their lives in such kind of critical accidents where we always get the same answer from authorities. To date, the authorities have been unsuccessful in controlling or even mitigating such accidents resulting in premature deaths; many times, it is children who are involved. I urge the authority concerned to take serious steps to eliminate the cause of such accidents and take those responsible to task.
