Research culture and progress of country

Letter January 06, 2017
Japan, Singapore and South Korea have developed their economies, based on research and knowledge production

ATTOCK: Universities in developed countries have an established research culture which leads to their progress and development. Unfortunately, we as a country, lag far behind in terms of research productivity as we lack the culture of research in our colleges and universities, which needs to be promoted on a war-footing basis.

The government should take substantive measures to promote a genuine research culture in our universities, providing logistics and an environment conducive to carrying out research projects. Special funds should be provided to hold research training workshops and simulation sessions. Moreover, seminars and online conferences may also be organised to hone students’ research skills. In so doing, we as a nation will be able to generate knowledge and make meaningful contributions to the contemporary world of knowledge. This is how Japan, Singapore and South Korea have developed their economies, based on research and knowledge production.
