Blank scorecard

Letter January 02, 2017
It is time to improve our infrastructure and create an environment of sports entertainment for the people

ISLAMABAD: A sports department is essential for any country and it plays the main role in portraying a positive image of a nation, as well as providing citizens a positive outlook. Pakistan, however, lost its rights to organise any type of international sports events since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in 2009. Due to this foreign conspiracy, the scorecards at all of our sports grounds are blank and the fields look like deserted graveyards.

Despite the long lapse of seven years, we must work to bring international sports back into the country so we can see Pakistan’s flag raised and shine in competition. It is good to see our sports associations, such as the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Pakistan Hockey Federation, working together to change the situation. The government should lead the way to resolve this issue at the governmental level. Completion of this work has major advantages for Pakistan, especially in the depressed and adverse conditions its people live in. It is time to improve our infrastructure and create an environment of sports entertainment for the people. We must persuade foreign countries to come and play under a new foolproof security system.
