Corruption and nepotism

Letter December 30, 2016
PML-N should provide its platform and fight for the rights of the people of Sindh

FAISALABAD: Sindh is a resourceful province. It has been gifted with a huge potential of natural resources in the form of coal, gas, oil and minerals. Sindh is home to a large portion of Pakistan’s industrial sector and contains two of Pakistan’s commercial seaports — Port Bin Qasim and the Karachi Port. The people of rural and urban Sindh are playing a vital role to strengthen the economy of Pakistan. Unfortunately, the province has been governed for many decades by rulers who promoted the culture of corruption and nepotism. They are the real hindrance in the way of development. Most big landlords and feudal lords belonging to rural Sindh are elected as representatives of the poor masses in every general election. They protect their own interests and businesses and do not work to resolve the problems of the downtrodden Sindhi people.

What would happen if, once again, the present leadership of the PPP regains power in the province in the upcoming general elections? Surely, it would be alarming and dangerous to further decline the development of Sindh. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N shall remain similarly responsible because their dealing and understanding with the PPP not to participate actively in Sindh’s politics is unhealthy and non-democratic. Being a national political party, the PML-N should provide its platform and fight for the rights of the people of Sindh instead of engaging in a dirty political deal.
