PIA plane crash

Letter December 12, 2016
We must remember the power is in our hands to change destiny

ISLAMABAD: The heart wrenching news of Junaid Jamshed and his wife who have been reportedly killed in PIA PK-661 plane crash during his alleged preaching mission is one of the most shocking and horrific bits of news that people of Pakistan have witnessed. What happened to these innocent souls is all the responsibility of a respectful airline that has a great history of achievements that we wish had continued to its name. Unfortunately, PIA’s ATR-42 are more expert at flying coffins than following international safety standards that should be followed.

Howcome human lives are not so important in Pakistan that we conclude all accidents and corrupt practices, due to a lack of ethics, by calling them “technical faults?” No one is to be accused but the airlines itself as here we see a disaster that takes place frequently because of mismanagement, negligence and no checks and balances. Our country and its citizens need a proper inquiry commission about this certain type of incident that is also willing to sentence the guilty and hold them accountable, no matter who it is or how much power and influence they have.

Mohammad Ali Jinnah warned us of corruption and said it was a curse and that power was in the hand of the so-called educated and intelligentsia. Unfortunately, it is this class that is egoistic and morally and intellectually corrupt. No doubt, this disease is common, but amongst this particular class of people, it is rampant. We, the nation of Jinnah, were created to understand and further the story of Pakistan, its struggles and its achievements. It is the story of great human ideals struggling to survive in the face of great odds and difficulties. We must remember the power is in our hands to change destiny.
