The management of places of public service is requested to ban mobile phone use during the day
TURBAT: There needs to be a rule on phone usage by professionals when on the job. Recently, I was sitting in my college class, engrossed in the teacher’s lesson, when his mobile telephone rang. He answered the phone call and disappeared for many minutes. He returned to class when the period was over, without any remorse or guilt for wasting the students’ time.
In my college, the period for any subject is specifically selected for students by the teacher. The teacher must be available during its entirety for the students. Instead, unaccountable teachers leave their classes when they receive a phone call, disturbing the students.
The use of cellular phones by doctors should also be restricted during patient appointments. Recent complaints received at a university hospital in Hyderabad describes that its employees, doctors and nurses spend around two hours using mobile phones and social media during duty time, which is sometimes only a few hours. They are being paid to serve the public, but they are not paying attention to nor fulfilling their obligations. Indeed, they do not deserve their salaries in such a case. The management of places of public service is requested to ban mobile phone use during the day, so that they can rightfully serve the students or patients as that is what they are being paid for.
