Child marriage

Letter November 27, 2016
They should apply pressure to get a bill passed against it in the National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: It is sad that in many developing countries, such as in India and Bangladesh, there are hundreds and thousands of young girls and boys under the age of 18 and they are married off by their parents due to reasons such as poverty and unemployment. Some children are married off at the age of nine or 10 years old and this happens regularly in such countries.

This also happens in Pakistan and we have failed to do something about it. These young girls and boys deserve to play and go to school instead of being married off at such young ages. This is a major violation of human rights but that is very common in our country, sadly. This issue cannot be allowed to continue for so long. All human rights activists and the public should protest and bring an end to this injustice and madness. They should apply pressure to get a bill passed against it in the National Assembly and we should rid our country of the menace as soon as possible.
