A good win but…

Letter February 24, 2011
The team would do well to remember the following things before the February 26 match against Sri Lanka.

KARACHI: Pakistan’s win over Kenya on February 23 was well-deserved. However, the team would do well to remember the following things before the February 26 match against Sri Lanka: 1. The openers failed. Both openers have done well prior to the cup so one hopes that this was an exception. 2. Shoaib Akhtar was miserly in his spells but never looked to threaten the batsman, let alone take a wicket. Abdul Razzaq should not be considered a full-time bowler, though Umar Gul was dangerous. Strangely enough, Junaid Khan and Wahab Riaz, two bowlers with youth and enthusiasm on their side, were left out of the squad. 3. Pakistan scored 272 odd runs, out of which 45 were granted to them by the Kenyans as extras. That score isn’t that high or formidable given the opposition. 4. We were playing Kenya, not a major side.
