Ban on heavy traffic in Karachi

Letter November 14, 2016
I request the authorities concerned to look into this matter and impose an effective ban on heavy traffic

KARACHI: As a citizen of Karachi, I would like to request the Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, along with the IG Sindh and DIG Traffic Karachi, to impose an effective ban on heavy traffic from within city premises during peak rush hours in the morning and in the evening. We observe that despite a ban existing on paper as of September 2016, heavy traffic roams around the city in the morning and evening during peak rush hours adding to the plight of the citizens of Karachi. Moreover, it is observed in the industrial areas of SITE and Korangi that drivers violating the ban on heavy traffic during the daytime easily pass through check posts after paying some ‘speed money’. Nothing has changed from before the ban was imposed two months ago. I request the authorities concerned to look into this matter and impose an effective ban on heavy traffic in the city during peak hours so that people can save precious hours of their lives.
