President Zardari asking businessmen to assist govt is like locking the stable doors after the horses have bolted.
LAHORE: President Zardari has recently asked investors, entrepreneurs and businessmen to “step in now to assist the government to take remedial measures”. This is like locking the stable doors after the horses have bolted. Even the company now in control of KESC has hinted of late that it would call it quits if it is not allowed to act independently.
Also, where is the enabling environment for promotion of industry? Economic growth creates extra demand for electricity and gas but in this country there is loadshedding of both. Agriculture needs an ample supply of water which also is not there, certainly not as much as is needed for growing crops in ample quantities.
The president also spoke of “sustained growth” but one wonders how this will be possible in the prevailing environment.
