Internal structure of our national political parties, including religious parties, is based on autocracy and monarchy
FAISALABAD: Jamat-e-Islami Amir Sirajul Haq said the intra-party elections of four major parties during the last week with members getting elected unopposed were fraudulent in the name of democracy and should be an eye opener for the masses. The PML-N Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was among those.
There is no reasonable, transparent and fair mechanism of elections in our country for choosing representatives within parties. In the last report published by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency about internal democracy within parties of the country, Jamaat-e-Islami was ranked as the most democratic while the PML-N stood least in the ranking. This is not a healthy sign for strong and sustainable democracy. The internal structure of our national political parties, including religious parties, is based on autocracy and monarchy. Interestingly, people have never seemed to care about choosing their true representatives.
