Push-ups

Letter October 31, 2016
The whole sporting world must be laughing at us after such a childish statement

LAHORE: Sportsmen all over the world celebrate victories in their respective sports by adopting different ways. Shahid Afridi used to raise both hands with his index fingers pointing upwards, Shoaib Akhter, with both hands starched, ran around the field, and others make the ‘V’ sign or start dancing. It was shocking to find PML-N Rana Muhammad Afzal questioning the national cricket team’s manner of celebrating victories by doing push-ups.

The mindset of the elected member speaks of the biased mentality towards the achievements of our cricket team. Commemorating any achievement on the playing ground is a right of every sportsman.

Our MNAs, instead of wasting time and energy on such petty matters, must concentrate on the welfare of their voters, who have sent them to the assemblies, not for criticising the cricket team about doing push-ups but for solving their problems. Such statements achieve nothing but providing an opportunity to the world to laugh at us. The whole sporting world must be laughing at us after such a childish statement by a sitting lawmaker of Pakistan. It is expected that our lawmakers and those who, in any form or the other, are able to influence policymaking will refrain from making such childish statements.
