Lahore culture under threat

Letter September 08, 2016
Lahore’s cultural and architectural heritage is one of the most prized possessions of the country

KARACHI: The Orange Line project, if it is ever implemented fully, is a threat to Lahore’s culture. Its completion could result in harm being caused to many famous historic sites of Lahore, including Shalimar Bagh, Chauburji and 12 others.

Lahore’s cultural and architectural heritage is one of the most prized possessions of the country, with tourists regularly thronging these sites. While the Lahore High Court has halted work on the Orange Line project, it appears that the Punjab government is still adamant about challenging this order and resuming work on it. The provincial authorities need to make sure that any future work on the project does not in any way harm our cultural heritage.
