Pending project in Mubarak Village

Letter September 03, 2016
Karachi’s second largest fisherman locality has no basic facilities such as jetties, gas, health and education

KARACHI: The project for the provision of electricity to Mubarak Village was stopped by relevant departments four years ago. Poles, pad-mounted transformers and electrical wires were installed in about half of the village but the other half was left to live in darkness. Efforts had begun for the provision of electricity in 2009, when former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah had announced the transforming of the village into a model village.

Mubarak Village is Karachi’s second largest fisherman locality, but has no basic facilities such as jetties, gas, health and education. It is 30 kilometres from Karachi with a population of more than 10,000. Villagers have demanded an inquiry into the affair, asking as to why development work has been stopped. They rightfully deserve an answer.
