Need for industries in FATA

Letter September 02, 2016
The process of industrialisation through a policy of public and private partnerships would provide employment

FAISALABAD: We live in the modern era with there having been advances in all areas of human activity. It has also been an age of discovery and globalisation. Pakistan is a democratic state where there has been significant development in the fields of science, the arts, sports, politics and warfare. Nonetheless, the Fata region remains the most impoverished part of the nation. The region neither has a university nor has a system of banks. Instead, it is a major centre for opium trafficking as well the smuggling of other contrabands. It was also the hub of militancy at one point but the Pakistan Army has successfully carried out military operations against militants. There is a dire need to develop and improve the infrastructure of Fata and provide modern facilities that the rest of the country has access to.

The government has a plan to make reforms for better inclusion of Fata into the mainstream of national life. I would like to suggest the industrialisation of the tribal areas as this can rapidly break up tribal barriers and promote integration. The process of industrialisation through a policy of public and private partnerships would not only provide employment opportunities and economic benefits but also assist in bringing the youth of the tribal areas on a par with those of developed cities in the rest of the country.
