Fishermen in Gwadar

Letter September 01, 2016
The government should find an alternative for these men

TURBAT: Fishermen in Gwadar have been appealing for fishing rights for the past six months. They have been banned from catching fish in the seawaters. This was quite a tragedy for these fishermen who relied on fishing as their primary and possibly only source of income. They are now unable to feed their children and run their households.

While the area is being modernised with Chinese engineers coming in to make changes, the local inhabitants are becoming destitute. This is injustice being inflicted on the resident fishermen of Gwadar. The government should find an alternative for these men instead of seeking to deprive them of their livelihoods. This should have been a part of their planning in the first place.
