MORRIS PLAINS, NJ, USA: In 1995, I applied for and was allotted a 200-square-yard plot in the Cottage Industrial Zone, Orangi Township, Karachi. The programme was launched by the then Karachi Metropoliltan Corporation and subsequently taken over by the city government. Between 1995 and 2008, I paid over Rs150,000 for this plot but so far, there is no hope of either getting formal ownership of the land or my money back. I regularly write letters, once or twice each year, to the City District Government and others but have never received a reply.
Not knowing who to turn to, I wish to highlight my plight and that of many others with some hope that in the changing situation in Karachi, there may be someone who is sympathetic to all the allottees of the plots in this and other such schemes.
