Tireless in spirit, he remained as purposeful in every action he took
LONDON, UK: Before yet another month of August ends, I’d like to draw attention to the night between August 14 and 15 this year when most of the country was winding down celebrating its Independence and Pakistan’s historic win at the Oval, Islamabad lost a son. It lost a father, a friend a husband, a brother. It lost Fahad Malik. I could focus on the nature of the loss and the very tragic circumstances that robbed Fahad of his life, but I choose not to, and would focus on him and what he was about. The cruel irony of the incident fails to escape me — the man who was so against firearms that he didn’t even entertain his son playing with toy guns, had to face demons holding weapons in his final moments.
His fast-paced approach to life, his quick-witted thought and delivery, his ability to understand and comprehend even difficult academic texts was part of what made him. A loyal friend who had to fathom losing a father at a young age and having to step in as the man of the family and tending to his younger brother Jawad, Fahad was his family’s pillar. His uncle, Mian Soomro, cited his efforts during the floods and earthquake at his burial and his prayers, and that should reflect much on the man he was. Tireless in spirit, he remained as purposeful in every action he took, and almost with a singular focus and intent which was not easy to dent. Rest in peace brother. You will be missed.
