OIC and Kashmir

Letter August 25, 2016
I request Secretary General Madani to come forward and put pressure on the UN to find a peaceful solution

FAISALABAD: Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Ameen Madani, addressing a joint press conference with Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, expressed serious concerns over human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir and supported Pakistan’s stance on the issue.

The OIC’s purpose was to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony. Unfortunately, the OIC is not playing its vital role in this regard. There is a complete lack of unity among the Muslim Ummah. From Syria to Yemen, Iran to Saudi Arabia and Iraq to Sudan, Muslims are seen fighting wars against one another. First of all, the OIC should unite the Muslim world by resolving their internal conflicts amicably. With unity, it would be able to safeguard the interests of Muslim world.

Human rights have been violated in Kashmir by India for many decades. The OIC has only issued statements of condemnation and never took the issue seriously. The OIC should call an emergency meeting to discuss the burning issue of Kashmir. The OIC has permanent delegations to the United Nations and the European Unions. I request Secretary General Madani to come forward and put pressure on the UN to find a peaceful solution, according to its resolutions, for the right of self-determination for Kashmiris.
