Day-night Tests

Letter August 21, 2016
As test match attendances are down the world over, holding day-night Tests could prove to be beneficial

KARACHI: In recent times we have seen the advent of day-night Test cricket. Australia and New Zealand have proven to be good day-night Test venues where match conditions are suitable for such contests. However, this is not the case in Asia because of the dew factor, which causes the ball to get wet, making it difficult for bowlers to get wickets.

There is a view that as Test match attendances are down the world over, holding day-night Tests could prove to be beneficial. It should not be forgotten though that while the number of fans in stadiums may have gone down  there are still millions of viewers watching at home and Test cricket is still popular. Given this, going down the route of holding day-night Tests in conditions that aren’t suitable for such contests won’t be a wise decision.
