Burqini ban

Letter August 21, 2016
France should be working to strengthen its security forces and intelligence apparatus to curb the terror menace

TURBAT: The burqini is a full body swimsuit that is worn to hide the body and is currently the subject of a ban by various local governments in France. This is really discriminatory for the Muslim citizens of France. According to the authorities concerned, banning the burqini is an attempt to uphold French values and respect the feelings of the French who have been under attack from terrorists.

However, the authorities in France should also think about the religious principles of its Muslim population. In a bid to curb militant agendas, the values of a significant portion of the French population should not be trampled upon. Instead of banning the burqini, France should be working to strengthen its security forces and intelligence apparatus to curb the terror menace.
