In Egypt, or even in Pakistan, democracy is not to be found.
ISLAMABAD: This is with reference to B A Malik’s letter of February 7 titled “Learn from history, Mubarak”. I agree with his view that in mature democratic nations, transfer of power is always smooth and transparent. However, what is different in Egypt’s or even in Pakistan’s case is that democracy is not to be found. In the case of Pakistan, for instance, elections are usually engineered and it is not practical to expect a smooth transfer of power.
For that to happen, we need to have a truly independent election commission and mature political leaders who are able to accept defeat.
