Government spending needs to be kept in check lest the fiscal deficit spiral further out of control.
KARACHI: This is with reference to your report of February 9, which says that an amount of Rs3 billion is to be spent on constructing new parliamentary lodges for members of the National Assembly and Senate.
One is constrained to ask why this expenditure is being made, given that the country is still suffering from the devastation caused by the floods of 2010 and also considering that government spending needs to be kept in check, lest the fiscal deficit spiral further out of control. The proposal to build new lodges for members of parliament should be scrapped.
