Amending the CrPC

Letter August 11, 2016
Considering the surge in crimes, it is hoped that the government will amend the CrPC on a priority basis

LAHORE: The news that the Punjab government intends to amend the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) 1898, for the registration of criminal cases and submission of challans in courts for trail, is a welcome step as the move will help save time and money. Although the provincial government has approved the amendments, it is the federal government that has the constitutional right to amend the CrPC. The move taken by the government highlights its firm resolve to play an effective role in maintaining the law and order situation of the country. Considering the surge in crimes, it is hoped that the government will amend the CrPC on a priority basis in order to avoid useless investigations and prosecutions in courts.
