It only speaks of poor planning by the Punjab government
LAHORE: This refers to Dr Jaffer Kapadia’s letter in these columns (August 5, 2016). He lamented that the section of Multan Road three kilometres from the motorway overhead bridge — towards Shahpur Road — has a cut that is torturous for commuters. This, indeed, is the most congested piece of road and poorly supervised by the Motorway Police. The misfortune of commuters who face this hardship daily, is that this stretch of the road is not located on the route of the VIPs, especially the chief minister of Punjab. Roads on which the CM passes are decorated with flowerpots and creepers. Jinnah Avenue was one of the best-maintained roads, but it has been dug up again for remodelling because it leads to Jati Umra — the Sharifs’ new city. I suggest that the CM travel unescorted from Thokar Niazbeg to Chung to experience what motorists and passengers, inhumanly packed in buses, have to go through daily. Here is a unique case where long-bodied buses have to traverse within a few 100 metres to approach the bus stand located across the road. It only speaks of poor planning by the Punjab government. Adding lanes on both sides of Multan Road, especially at this particular stretch of road, is the only way out.
