Misuse of loudspeakers

Letter February 07, 2011
The sad fact is that the police are afraid of taking any action against those misuse loudspeakers.

KARACHI: Your editorial of February 7 titled “Silencing hatred” is very timely. However, the sad fact is that the police are afraid of taking any action against those misuse loudspeakers. For instance, close to where I live, after the call to fajr prayer, I can hear men using hand-held, battery-operated loudspeakers screaming at the top of their voices asking people to wake up and come to the mosque. The law that has been passed by parliament is good — but only on paper because its enforcement isn’t going to happen anytime soon, it seems.
