Effective steps need to be taken to curb such tendencies
KINGDOM OF BAHRAIN: The Honourable Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, Mr Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, as per a news item, recently said that no judge of the lower judiciary should insult lawyers.
The biggest movement in the history of Pakistan was for the restoration of Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudry. In this movement, even those who never came on the streets contributed directly or indirectly. Everyone dreamed that with the restoration, “dharti hoo gee maan kay jaisee.”
However, at the end of the day, as usual, we found ourselves having been fooled once again. The only thing the nation saw was the birth of a new black coat mighty force and an unheard-of increase in lawyer fees. In Karachi in the 1960s, sand-transporting trucks were a sign of death on the road and anyone driving a motorcycle, rickshaw, car, bus or goods truck saved themselves from these wheels of death. In the 1970s, this slot was taken over by the then newly-arrived 30-32 seaters called mini-wagons. The 1980s and 1990s witnessed other new inventions, the mention of which needs avoidance. In the nineties and the current decade, this mantle has been taken over by a force of which even the police are afraid. In Muzaffargarh, over 200 lawyers locked the additional district collector for hours in his office. Effective steps need to be taken to curb such tendencies.
