I cannot understand nations. A country with these kind of problems is busy discussing Kashmir?
MUMBAI: This is with reference to Mahmood Abbasi’s article of February 5 titled “Solidarity with Kashmir”. As an Indian, I find some of the thoughts intriguing, at times confusing and, in most cases, miles away from reality.
Consider: large parts of Pakistan were devastated by the worst floods in its history, with millions left homeless. The economy, by the government’s own admission, is in shambles. Militants are running amok and killing Pakistanis with impunity, people are being killed because of misuse of the existing blasphemy laws and there is rampant sectarian violence.
I cannot understand nations. A country with these kind of problems is busy discussing Kashmir? Why? Any other nation with even one-tenth of such problems would have dedicated itself to tackling its own problems first, rebuild itself and then worry about what the rest of the world is doing to it. At the risk of offending some Pakistani readers, I can’t imagine a more fitting example of a nation whose priorities have gone awfully wrong. I think the advice I would give my Pakistani friends is, take care of your country and Kashmir will take care of itself.
