If women start killing men on the basis of perceived ‘honour’, very few men would be alive today
HARIPUR: The practice of killing for ‘honour’ continues unabated. The government needs to step up its prosecution of these horrific cases and impart a message of zero tolerance. Women are shot dead, burned alive, and mutilated every day in the name of honour and Pakistan’s legal system conveniently looks the other way. Any attempts to change the law have been blatantly shot down. Bills introduced in parliament proposing to strengthen the Pakistani Penal Code and curb ‘honour’ killings, have been dismissed as “un-Islamic” by a majority in favour of respecting society’s “cultural traditions”.
If women start killing men on the basis of respect and perceived ‘honour’, very few men would be alive today. Feminists are easily murdered, but what about child abusers, rapists, perpetrators of acid attacks and the mens who sexually harass girls everywhere? What punishment do they deserve?
