The obvious reason behind failed coup in Turkey is that the masses expressed their trust in the government
KARACHI: Turkey’s recent democratic versus military turmoil has given a substantive lesson and precedent to the Pakistani democratic government that delivery and performance is the real asset to protect and consolidate any democratic set-up instead of doing vain political point scoring. It was not only Turkey’s government but also its police and media that executed their roles appropriately to help stop the planned coup.
The obvious reason behind failed coup in Turkey is that the masses expressed their trust in the government. In the past, Sadam Hussain, Hosni Mubarak and Muammar Qadafi were ousted because they could not win the hearts of their people as they did not deliver performance. Unfortunately, a similar scenario is starting to occur here as well. Although it is reality that Recip Tayyip Erdogan is liked by many people, while there are three main opposition parties and many others who detest him passionately, those who do not like him still expressed their trust in his democratic set-up and stood together in the streets across the country confront rebel soldiers.
It is crucial time that our leaders put their money where their mouths are and work with sincerity and dedication to eliminate economic terrorism, corruption and other social evils.
