Disgusted by the PPP’s stance

Letter February 04, 2011
Other than condemning Taseer's murder, his party has failed to support him even after his death.

BLACKSBURG, VA, US: Much has been said about the brutal assassination of Salmaan Taseer and the black law in both national and international media. I am, however, referring to the prime minister’s statement before the National Assembly on February 2, where he assured its members that the government had no intention of changing the law. For me, Salmaan Taseer was a brave politician who refused to cower down before mullah pressure. He took a stand on the blasphemy law and died supporting its amendment. He was the only politician to visit the Ahmadis after the May 28 attacks on two of their places of worship and also the first politician to publicly come out in support of Aasia Bibi.

Surprisingly, other than condemning his murder and declaring a few days of mourning, his party failed to support him even after his death. Frankly speaking, I am disgusted by the PPP’s stance on the issue.
