Imran Khan is not naive

Letter February 02, 2011
I am disappointed at the derisive manner in which the writer has dismissed Mr Khan's views.

AUSTIN, TX, US: This is in response to Munizae Jahangir’s article titled "World Economic Forum — Imran Khan: The face of Pakistan at Davos" published in your newspaper on January 30. I am disappointed at the derisive manner in which the writer has dismissed Mr Khan's views. One need not have a PhD in causality to see the cause-and-effect relationship between military operations (including drone attacks) and increasing suicide bombs in our country.

Mr Khan has urged the government many times to lobby the international community to alter its strategy in the war on terror, but his pleas have fallen on deaf ears. Seeing no hope from a government that is absorbed in self-preservation, he has taken up this task himself. What the writer characterised as 'bewildered' looks in the audience may well have been the result of those sitting in it hearing something that no one had ever yet dared to say to them.
