Not enough to eat and drink

Letter February 01, 2011
We lionise those who murder other people and we shower them with rose petals.

MELBOURNE: This is with reference to the report on your website of January 31 titled “Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal edges ahead of India”. We are broke and destitute, but we have nuclear weapons — or should I say ‘aitum bums’. Our strategic assets keep blowing our innocent people and what do we do? We build more nuclear weapons.

We lionise those who murder other people and we shower them with rose petals. And the whole nation sits and watches, saying nothing, as thousands are killed in acts of terrorism. But instead of getting to the bottom of this and tackling this monster, we busy ourselves with telling the Americans off and saying that we are sovereign and deserve respect. Our thinking is that as long as we have nuclear bombs, no one will dare lift a finger at us.

We have millions upon millions of people living in poverty with not enough to eat and drink — and what do we do? We build more and more nuclear weapons. Long live our nuclear weapons.
