Justice for Model Town victims

Letter June 11, 2016
The Model Town incident that claimed 14 innocent lives because of firing by the Punjab Police

KARACHI: The APS incident was a catastrophe that can never be forgotten as it had an impact that can’t be overlooked, which resulted in a radical change of policies against terrorism. There is another incident that we should never forget as a nation and which deserves a similar change in our mindsets. The Model Town incident that claimed 14 innocent lives because of firing by the Punjab Police at unarmed civilians is, up until now, one of the worst examples of unjustified use of force by the state.

This tragedy should have also been a turning point of policies for our nation and the culprits that are still holding important positions in the state should have instead faced the music. Did the state consider the victims lesser humans worthy of their rights to be trampled upon?
