ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis have recently had plenty of opportunity to view many National Assembly sessions on television. Owing to the ever-increasing number of blunders committed by our politicos, television channels have another important stream to offer live. The media has played a great role in spreading awareness among the people and has helped hone their political judgement and analyse numerous national situations of importance.
Recent statistics have revealed to the people as to how many members actually attend the assembly sessions regularly; what perks they have access to; where is the leader of the house, whether it is national or provincial; and what kind of bills are being discussed in parliament?
I believe that there is a need for a television channel that is dedicated to the broadcasting of assembly proceedings to help satiate the democratic thirst of the masses. It’s becoming important for the people to become aware of core matters so that they can make better decisions for their country in the future. A dedicated TV channel for assembly broadcasts would also help parliamentarians and other assembly members feel more responsible and become adept at their work. This channel could also help youngsters get motivated and play their role in politics.
