This force has been created with the vision to safeguard and secure Lahore by controlling street crimes
LAHORE: The recent news about the street crime decline in Lahore has provided relief to the city residents who feel threatened at the hands of criminals. The police data confirm that since the Doplhin Force began patrolling the city, the incidence of street crimes has dropped drastically. The official statistics show that the city has witnessed almost 50 per cent decrease in incidents of street robberies since this smart patrolling police started performing its duties. It is pertinent to mention here that the inspiration for such a force came to the Punjab chief minister from Turkey as the Dolphin police was initially established in 1973 in Istanbul. This force has been created with the vision to safeguard and secure Lahore by controlling street crimes with the help of state-of-the-art technology and human skill.
Since it is the responsibility of the government to control crime and maintain law and order, the establishment of the Dolphin Force is a landmark achievement. Keeping in view the rise in street crimes in other parts of the province, the government should consider the replication of the Dolphin Squad model in other areas of Punjab. It is hoped that the Punjab government’s initiative to have an agile and modern patrolling police unit in Lahore would help improve police culture and provide a sense of security to the general public
