Negligence by the election commission

Letter June 04, 2016
The ECP should take notice of the deficiencies present in the voter lists

SAHIWAL: This is apropos the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) reservations against the problems created by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The PTI is not completely wrong when it criticises the ECP as it has been found to be negligent in various spheres, including when it comes to updating voter lists. It has placed the names of several voters in the lists of such constituencies as are different from the addresses of the voters’ CNICs. This discrepancy has affected the voting rights of several people of my village. Moreover, complex procedures of correction of voter lists has become a dilemma for the common voter. He has to travel hundreds of kilometres to get the list corrected.

The ECP should take notice of the deficiencies present in the voter lists. And it should introduce a messaging service for the correction of the same so that precious time and money of citizens can be saved.
