One notorious supermarket owner in Bahadurabad is establishing hazardous godowns and warehouses in residential areas
KARACHI: Please allow me to acknowledge this newspaper’s Karachi-based correspondents for bringing the supermarket nuisance issue to public attention. The Sindh Assembly should pass a resolution making it mandatory for all supermarkets to get environmental clearance from the Sindh Environmental Protection Agency. The Commissioner of Karachi himself should visit areas like Gulshan-e-Iqbal and especially Bahadurabad, where supermarket owners are destroying the environment of entire neighbourhoods.
One notorious supermarket owner in Bahadurabad is establishing hazardous godowns and warehouses in residential areas violating all laws. Can you imagine the audacity of this mafia when it, without any hindrance, converts a small market area designated for small stores into an illegal superstore having unsafe structures? The result of this is overflowing gutters, garbage all over the place, and heavy traffic all day long.
The residents of these areas are under severe mental torture. The Sindh Building Control Authority and the housing societies concerned have completely failed to protect residents. The elected representatives have yet to act. We demand of the authorities to save us from this supermarket mafia that is forcing us to flee our homes.
