Why doesn’t the government have a transport service for its policemen?
KARACHI: While going to my office the other day, I came across a police constable standing at one of the intersections on the side and asking for a ride. He must have been in his forties and was waving his hand at the passing traffic near the Chief Minister House. My instinctive reaction was not to stop but then I thought that while we think that most policemen are always ready to take a bribe, there are, in fact, many who lay down their lives in the war against the militants. Take, for instance, what happened in Lahore on Chehlum when several policemen lost their lives trying to stop a suicide bomber. Why doesn’t the government have a transport service for its policemen?
