This country is stuck between these two extremes.
KARACHI: This is with reference to Saleha Riaz’s article of January 28. Extreme views are exactly that: extreme. Therefore, to make their views heard and understood, they need to scream and whine about them, day in and day out. They — the extremists — cannot do this rationally or with civil arguments, so they take to the streets either holding banners, supporting an actress on TV and internet-based media, or holding ‘laathis’ and guns. It’s easier to be an extremist than a moderate, perhaps because it’s not only convenient but also gives one an ‘identity’, so to speak.
This country is stuck between these two extremes: liberal fascists and religious extremists. The moderates will always be in a minority; or perhaps they are a silent majority. Why? Because there is nothing to shout about.
