Choosing a Muslim, working-class man of Pakistani origin shows the triumph of a secular and just state
ISLAMABAD: In an era when Islamophobia is at its peak globally, particularly in the West, to be elected as mayor of a city like London is reflective of the political wisdom of the British nation. Amidst the horrors of terror attacks across Europe in the past couple of years and the ongoing debate on Brexit, choosing a Muslim, working-class man of Pakistani origin shows the triumph of a secular and just state.
Can we ever see a person from a humble beginning in our country, let alone a non-Muslim, attaining a high public office? It is a far-fetched idea and one that is too advanced for Pakistan at the moment.
