Curse of honour killing (II)

Letter May 10, 2016
We still don’t have any law that declares honour killings a criminal act, demanding immediate steps in this regard

ISLAMABAD: Apropos your editorial, “Another jirga-induced tragedy” (May 7) about the strangling and burning of a young woman in Abbottabad after she helped her friend elope. This is another addition to the volume of the horrific tales of honour killing in Pakistan. A month ago, the Women’s Protection Bill passed by the Punjab Assembly echoed all around us but was silenced amidst objections by religious circles. The government was threatened with being toppled if the Bill was implemented. We still don’t have any law that declares honour killings a criminal act. This is something that must be done as soon as possible.
