The government needs to finally wake up and initiate a campaign against corruption
ISLAMABAD: Army Chief General Raheel Sharif has said that “across the board accountability is necessary for the solidarity, integrity and prosperity of Pakistan” adding that the war against terror cannot be won unless “the menace of corruption is uprooted”. The ongoing war against terrorism and extremism being fought with the backing of the entire nation cannot bring enduring peace and stability unless corruption is eradicated. He also added that the military would fully support every meaningful effort in that direction, which he said would ensure a better future for the next generations.
To support his position, General Raheel Sharif recently dismissed some military officers over corruption, in a rare public display of accountability by the institution. He has set a good precedence of accountability and how it should be maintained across the board regardless of who the senior officers are and no matter how influential they may be. General Raheel Sharif has set a great example for politicians to follow. The government needs to finally wake up and initiate a campaign against corruption.
