It is high time the authorities took action to regulate the use of loudspeakers
KARACHI: The insensitive use of loudspeakers has become quite a nuisance in our cities. It is most annoying that loudspeakers have now become an integral part of almost all celebrations. People seem to believe that even private occasions, such as weddings and birthday parties, would be incomplete without the use of blaring loudspeakers.
Noise pollution is already one of the greatest problems city dwellers have to deal with. The excessive use of loudspeakers makes it worse. Of course, there are occasions when their use is absolutely necessary, but I see no justification in using them at every party or gathering.
The worst hit by this incessant use of loudspeakers are children and the elderly. Due to the excessive noise, the elderly cannot sleep properly and children cannot concentrate on their studies — not to mention, the sleeping infants who awaken due to the noise of loudspeakers. It is high time the authorities took action to regulate the use of loudspeakers.
