Under the sun

Letter April 19, 2016
If a citizen is in bewilderment to get through the hot season, should look towards security officials for motivation

KARACHI: Last year, Karachi saw its hottest summer in its history, which took the lives of approximately 2,000 citizens of the metropolis. This year, the prediction is no different. In a bigger perspective, Pakistan is facing the repercussions of climatic disorders around the world and many countries are being affected by these changes.

I am concerned as to how I will cope with the sweltering heat, especially when I have to commute to university classes during Ramazan. But when I see our law-enforcement agencies and our security personnel, their dedication emboldens me. Be it policemen, traffic police or other military personnel, their resolve really gives me courage. They wear a proud uniform, a heavy bulletproof vest with gloves and helmets and carry heavy weapons. Regardless of how hot the weather is, they stand under the flaming sun instead of the shade. They perform their duties with utmost zeal without letting the weather hinder their work.

If any ordinary citizen like me is in bewilderment whether he or she will be able to get through this hot season, they should look towards our security officials for motivation. If such torturous conditions can’t stop them from completing their duties, we can surely also complete our responsibilities.
